The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle has partnered with our friends at the Port of Seattle, Sound Experience, Seattle Skills Center, and Compass Courses to introduce the Youth Maritime Career Launch Program (YMCLP)!
The Youth Maritime Career Launch Internship Program is a 3-month PAID internship that connects youth and young adults ages 16-24 to permanent employment opportunities with employers in the Maritime Industry. The goal of this program is to establish an employment pipeline to diversify the maritime workforce and get young adults into entry level jobs in the industry. Participants in this program will be trained in job readiness skills, certified in Basic Safety trainings, trained in entry level maritime skills, and etc. before going into their internships. Participants in this program will also be supported in wrap around services including transportation assistance, work related clothing, access to safety gear/equipment, and etc.
Programming will start in July 2024 for job readiness/training workshops. Participants will be paid an hourly stipend up to $18 an hour and work a maximum of 35 hours per week during the 3-month internship period anytime between July-December.
